Sonia Targontsids

These photographs are from a larger group of images that depict my notions of life, death, and what it means to be human. In them people eat, sleep, breath, think, age – all the while envelop in lightness or darkness – both spaces of transformation. Their expressions and gestures suggest a sense of charged possibilities. What is revealed is the transience and mortality of the person or object depicted.

Sonia Targontsidis lives in Jamaica Plain, MA. She earned her MFA from Massachusetts College of Art in Boston and has exhibited her work at the Toale Gallery, the Copley Society of Boston, and the Fuller Museum of Art. She has taught at Stonehill College and the Massachusetts College of Art, where she is currently an Institutional Research Assistant.
