CURATORS

The Center for Photography at Woodstock seeks to foster the ongoing dialogue in the photographic arts by presenting cutting edge group exhibitions centered around a cohesive theme or topic, which bring forth new ideas, challenge existing concepts and enlighten audiences through the prism of photography and related media.

CPW welcomes proposals from curators who wish to curate exhibition/publication programs of innovative contemporary photography and related media including film, video, and web-based works.

CPW invites guest curators to organize group exhibitions that represent a concept of significance to the contemporary field. Proposals typically feature six to eight image makers (representing diversity of gender, geography, and ethnicity).

We encourage potential applicants not familiar with CPW’s exhibition program or our physical venue, to view our online exhibition archives to better envision the gallery’s capacity.

What CPW provides

CPW will host selected exhibitions for a period of six to eight weeks, coordinate with curator and artists receipt of shipped artworks and artist texts, promote, install/de-install, document, present and archive the exhibition on CPW’s website, ship artwork (and cover portion of expenses), coordinate educational programming with the curator, and provide an honorarium to curators and artists if or to the extent that funding permits.

What to include in your proposal

Please send a one-page proposal description of exhibition, accompanied with names, contact information, and bios of artists, as well as visuals of works being considered, and curator’s resume. Visuals can be submitted as digital files (jpegs, maximum width of 2,200 pixels and/or maximum height of 1,800 pixels) via CD-ROM/DVD or flash key.

For proposals which include a publication component, also include resume and previous writing samples of any additional contributor(s), and a synopsis of what the contributed essays will cover.

Submit proposal packages via email.
