The body is a marvelous machine that baffles and intrigues us all. At a very young age, I always wondered how and why the body functions. The very first time I went into a surgical suite, I was fascinated with the dramatization of the entire process. “The Surgical Theater Series” compares the surgical process to a play or a musical where there are actors, props, stage, and lighting. From the beginning of this project I wanted my images to raise questions about the defenselessness of an individual‚Äôs life. During shoots, I would consider myself a director, creating more theatrical images from the subject‚Äôs own already dramatic ordeal.
