Rebecca Stockham is from Greenville, South Carolina. The artist, who has been influenced by Rothko’s paintings, searches for color that is real but transcendent. There is something about a Rothko that makes you feel like you must sit and spend some time with it to really feel it. I find it is a delicate balance of emotive color, size, and the amount of information given. Her landscapes become abstractions that become metaphors for other landscapes. Ms. Stockham has shown her images at the Greenville Museum of Art, SC; Virginia Commonwealth University, VA; and the Asia Society, NYC. She has studied in China and England and is a fellowship recipient of the South Carolina Arts Commission.
