John Cohen

John Cohenwas born in New York City, received an MFA from Yale, studied painting with Josef Albers, and photography with Herbert Matter. He was a film assistant to Robert Frank (Sin of Jesus, Pull My Daisy) and to Herbert Matter (Mura Dehn dance films). He formed and has performed with the NEW LOST CITY RAMBLERS 1958 to present. The recipient of major filmmaking grants, his own films have been shown at many of the major international festivals. Cohen’s photographs are in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art (NYC) and portfolios of his work have been published in Aperture magazine and Creative Camera. Images by Cohen have appeared in Life, Fortune, Esquire, Harper’s Bazaar, and the New York Times Magazine. Cohen lives in Putnam Valley, NY.
