The “MagFrag” series is about creating a continued narrative regarding objectification. As a kind of process that could be described as “objectifying the objectified”, this series is comprised of photographs of constructions created from fashion magazines. The end result both references the photograph-as-object and subverts the pop-cultural images’ original form and purpose.

Like the ideas explored in “MagFrag”, the image “Frame World” is from the “Tableau” series, which attempts to furnish a proscenium or a sage where artifacts are allowed to transcend themselves.

Charles Shotwell graduated from Southern Illinois University with a degree in Photography. He shares his life with his wife, Lynn, and two children, Will and Mary. Lynn, holding the title “Secretary of War” manages the commercial photo studio they both own and operate Shotwell and Associates, where they shoot for advertising agencies and design firms, many of whom hire Charles based on ideas inspired by his personal work.
