“10,000 items or less” is meditative and spastic, hypnotic and disturbing. Shot over a 2 month period, 10,000 items or less features 10,000 individual photos of items in a supermarket. Each item gets its own cozy frame, but at thirty frames per second it doesn’t get to relax for long. The result is a five and a half minute flurry with noisy audio derived from the color values of the images themselves. Dog food and T.V. dinners, cigarettes and baby food all play a part in this experimental portrayal of bloated consumer choices.

Blair Neal is in his first year of study as a graduate student pursuing an MFA in Electronic Arts at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Albany, NY. Blair also received his BA in Electronic Media, Arts and Communication with a minor in Music from RPI in 2008. Since 2004 he has been the Head Music Director at the college’s radio station, WRPI.
