Aspen Mays

 

Within in the expanded field of photography, my practice privileges a methodology of making sense over the specifics of knowing, thereby attempting to mimic the capacity of science to call into question ideas that are above its capacity to provide answers to. In this way, I attempt to locate the limits of both my own personal understanding of the fundamental questions of existence as well as the horizons of understanding within larger human endeavors.

 

Aspen Mays (Los Angeles, CA) graduated with an MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2009. Her work has been exhibited in the Golden Gallery (NYC) and The Museum of Contemporary Photography (Chicago, IL, who also has her work in their permanent collection. In 2010, she was honored with a Fulbright Fellowship at the University of Chile, Santiago. Her work was featured in the Humble Art Foundation’s Collector’s Guide to New Art Photography Volume 2. Her work has been reviewed in Art Forum, Art Papers, The New Yorker and The New York Times, among others.
