Upstate Films & the Center for Photography at Woodstock present a special screening of Hanna Sawka’s Beyond Iconic. The film will be followed by a post-screening discussion led by the filmmaker, and then a reception with music at CPW.
Beyond Iconic is a 75-minute documentary film about Magnum photographer Dennis Stock, who created some of the most famous images in the world. His photograph of James Dean in Times Square is on BBC’s list of the 100 most famous photographs. Some of his other photographs - of the Hollywood Golden Era, Jazz greats, the hippie generation and stunning images of landscapes and nature - are in collections around the world, including the International Center of Photography (NY), the National Gallery (Washington, DC), and the Art Institute of Chicago. He lived in Woodstock with his wife, Susan Richards, an author who worked with the Woodstock Writers Festival, for the last decade of his life, and passed away in 2010 at the age of 81. Locally his work was exhibited at the Woodstock Film Festival (WFF) and CPW. Beyond Iconic was directed and produced by filmmaker Hanna Sawka, who grew up in High Falls, NY.
This special event costs $10 per person ($9 for seniors, or $8 for members of Upstate Films or CPW).
